List free on Ebay

Ebay is pretty much bottom feeders only when it comes to art acquisition, but hey! what have you got to lose other than your time?

What does this mean? The scurge of society buy art off ebay or ebay offers crap art? Please explain, I'm not clear on your criticism.

Hi Andrew,
It has been my experience, as an Ebay seller and user since it first came up, that Ebay - including its short-lived Ebay Premier site - tends to generally cater (when it comes to art) for people looking for a deal.
I didn't mean to imply that Ebay offers crap art (it does in some of the art being offered, but then again, so does Sotheby's, and Christie's, since "crap art" in the postmodern world is up to you and me to designate as such).
But there's also really good art being offered at Ebay, but the average Ebay looker is (in my experience with both Ebay and Ebay Premier) not looking for that; having said all of that, since now Ebay offers free limited posting of lots, I think that it is an excellent avenue to attempt to sell artwork, as long as the expectations are that 97% of the people looking at it are looking for a great deal (nothing wrong with that) and you're hoping that the right 3% see and like what you are offering.
Years ago - in the late 90s - I sold most of my remaining art school projects on Ebay... 100s of drawings, etchings, and even a few paintings, for what I consider were good prices and also good deals.
These days is not the same... much more artwork being offered, including a lot of fakes (I highlight some of these in the blog once in a while), and a lot of very affordable artwork... and wall acreage as a function of price has a lot to do with wwhat an average person will initially buy...

Thanks for your thoughts. I have a stack of prints that I'm thinking of posting on ebay and etsy. I want to price then to move cause a few dollars in the pocket right now is better than a foot high stack of dusty prints. If I can get $50 each, I'd be happy and my heating bills this winter will be taken care of.
I don't know if that qualifys as a "deal" but let's hope so, 97% sounds like shooting fish in a barrel.
I did get a Rosenquist print off ebay for $650 where a NY gallery wanted $3500. Yippeeeeee.
