Gagosian Suit Offers Rare Look at Art Dealing
(Via) Sopa opera from the blue chip art dealers...
A central question in the case has been whether Mr. Gagosian in essence worked both ends of the deal — not disclosing to Mr. Cowles that his gallery had a relationship with the buyer and that it was trying to get a favorable price for that buyer. In a deposition made public on Wednesday, Mr. Gagosian said that he frequently represented both the seller and buyer in a deal without disclosing that fact to either party. “To be honest with you, the question hardly ever gets asked,” he said. “I never get asked the question, ‘Are you representing both sides.’”Read the whole NYT article here and after you read that one, then read this one.

Thank You to ALL Veterans!
Thank you!
To all US veterans, both those who have served and those who are serving in all corners of the planet while we're home with our families. A well-deserved thank you to all the soldiers, sailors, airmen/women, Marines and Coasties.
Below is Petty Officer Third Class Lenny Campello back in 1975 while stationed aboard USS Saratoga (CV-60) in Mayport, Florida.
And then Lieutenant Commander Lenny Campello back in 1992 while assigned as the Executive Officer (XO) of NSGA Skaggs Island, California.

Wanna go to an opening tomorrow?
“Evidence” by Lori Anne Boocks
EXHIBITION DATES: October 31 - November 24, 2012
First Friday Reception: Nov. 2, 6:30 – 8:30 PM
Opening Reception: Nov. 10, 4 – 6 PM
WHERE: Studio Gallery, 2108 R Street N.W. Washington, DC 20008
Lori Anne Boocks's solo show at Studio Gallery is a dynamic exploration of
the power of stories and memory. In her acrylic paintings, she renders
text in expressive charcoal and forces the personal to become universal.
Words are rehashed, reworked, and stripped down to the bone then built
up again. Layers of color are added and partially removed to become a
lens through which she shares her cache of stories and invites viewers
to reflect upon their own.
By
documenting the past, she is gathering evidence: Evidence to describe
what a memory looks like and how it changes over time. Evidence from the
little crime scenes of our lives and the things we walk away from—or
the things we can't. Through these works, Boocks offers visible proof of
the significance of the many moments that make up our lives while
questioning her own remembrance of events.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Lori Anne Boocks received her BFA
from Old Dominion University. Her work is included in private
collections in the Metro DC area, California, and beyond. Recent solo
and group shows include the University of Maryland University
College, Delaplaine Visual Arts Center, Maryland Federation of Art, and
Adah Rose Gallery.

Aren't you glad we're not China?
In a timely contrast to our amazing and free democratic elections, which no matter how much unjustified bitching the left wing nuthouse makes about non-existent "voter supression" or the right wing conspiracy makes about the equally non-existent "illegal voters", are the cleanest and fairest in the world, tomorrow on November 8, the transfer of control for the Chinese Communist Party from Chinese President Hu Jintoa and Prime Minister Wen Jiaboa, core of a fourth generation pre-appointed leaders, will take place and transfer to Xi Jinping and Li Keqiang.
In the People's Republic of China, no one has a say in this process other than the very, very few at the top.
Glad to be an American and a prayer to the billions of Chinese who live with a ChiComm boot on their neck.

Congratulations
My sincere congratulations to President Obama on his win for a second term for the Presidency. It's a great thing to live in a great democracy such as ours, where no tanks have to roam the streets before,
during and after an election. As I do every year no matter who wins, I
now hope that we can put aside our political differences and stand
behind all of our elected officials to have them work together in spite
of the clear cut division shown by this election.
I was shocked in this election by the incredible amount of divisive rhetoric from both sides, the astounding Facebookian vitriol and personal hatred coupled with dogmatic approach to political slogans of many of my Facebook friends and how Facebook and social media became an extended arm of the vast right wing conspiracy and the even vaster left wing nuthouse.
And in the spirit of the hyphening of America, I'd like to be one of the first DMVers to welcome to our area some new faces, including my peeps Texas Senator Ted Cruz, who becomes the third Cuban-American currently in the US Senate (joining Marco Rubio and Bob Menendez) and the fifth Cuban-American Senator ever (others were Mel Martinez and John E. Sununu).
I'd also like to welcome new Mass. Senator Elizabeth Warren, the first female Native American Senator and Hawaii's Mazie Hirono, the first Asian-American woman elected to the Senate.

What is the best Miami fair for discovering emerging art and emerging artists? In my highly educated opinion, and after visiting almost all Miami art fairs for the last 8-10 years or so, I recommend that you vote for Aqua in this poll being conducted by New American Paintings:
In a little over a month people will be flocking to Miami to visit countless art fairs. Everyone has their favorites, based on a countless number of criteria. New American Paintings In my prides itself on helping expose the work of hundreds of new emerging artists each year. We continue to serve as a publication that allows its readers to discover new artistic talent in each issue. Not surprisingly, we feel a good art fair should also be a place where art-lovers can have that same sense of discovery.
Our poll question is simple; What is the Best Miami Fair for Emerging Art? Think about which fair consistently gives you that sense of discovery. We have gathered a list of fairs that have been regular attractions during this important week of December. Of these, which one best answers this question?
