Again with the Brits...

Just noticed that once again one of my drawings from about a decade ago just showed up on Ebay being sold by a British dealer. You can see this preparatory drawing here.

The drawing was done in 2000, and it was actually given to a celebrity collector who owns a lot of my artwork. They have an image of my dedication of the drawing to that person on the Ebay lot descrition - if you Google the person's name you will see immediately who it is. Once again I find it curious that it is now somewhere in Britain being offered on Ebay at a great price.

It's interesting how artwork travels around and how it ends where it does. A few years ago another of my drawings from this same collector showed up in a British auction house. A collector of my work who lives in the UK bought it and also brought it to my attention. He passed that the original owner initially had that particular piece in his London flat, which apparently he had subsequently sold and divested himself of all the stuff, including my artwork, which he had in London.

Someone will great a great deal on this nicely framed male nude.

PG Acquisitions at AOM

As I discussed here, PG County announced their intention to make significant purchases of artwork by Prince George's County artists at this year's Artomatic. These were my recommendations for them to acquire:

Nancy Donnelly
Ric Garcia
Robert Kincheloe
Ellen Cornett
Michael Janis
Jessica Murray

And on Saturday PG County announced their acquisitions - three of the artists chosen (Rania Hassan, Sean Hennessey and Bert Pasquale) were on my overall AOM recommended list - I just didn't realize they were also PG County artists, otherwise they would have been on the above list as well. I think the County really blew it by not acquiring one of Ric Garcia's intelligent take-offs on Hispanic labels, but then again, all the artists below deserve nothing by well-earned congratulations and the County deserves a huge thank you! from the DMV arts community by showing that when it comes to the visual arts, PG County puts their money where their mouths live and they set a great example for all the other counties in the area, including one of the wealthiest counties in the US (my own Soviet Socialist Republic of Montgomery County), which is (as usual) reticent to invest attention (much less dollars) upon its artists.

Alida and I visited AOM again on Saturday - it was really crowded and by the time we left around 11PM the crowds were really beginning to arrive.

Once again I discovered some spaces that I had missed in my previous three visits and will thus review and update my Friday AOM review... look for that tomorrow.

Launch Pad: Where Young Authors and Illustrators Take Off! is accepting submissions of art samples from young artists who would like to illustrate stories or poems for online publication.
