Artists' Websites: Alma Selimovic

A while back I was the Chief Critiquer in David Mordini's and Sean Hennessey's new event "The Critique" at their Otis Street Art Project space and while there had the opportunity to meet and see the work of one of the resident artists: Alma Selimovic.

I was very impressed by the work of this very young European artist and a recent MFA graduate of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philly and the Academy of Fine Arts, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In fact, I was so impressed that we plan to bring her work to SOFA Chicago next month... so buy her now!

Opening Reception: Friday, November 6 from 7-9pm
Show Dates: November 6–29, 2015

Have you ever walked into a gallery and admired a piece of beautiful art but couldn’t afford it? Just in time for holiday gift shopping, Del Ray Artisans (DRA) artists are making an offer you can’t refuse: artistic masterpieces for $100 and under!

Curator Stacy Rausch tasked Del Ray Artisans member artists to create their best, but affordable artwork for the Under $100: Affordable Masterpieces exhibit.  This is an opportunity for art patrons to collect and own a precious piece of art at a pocketbook-friendly price and take it with them at time of purchase.  The exhibit opens on Friday, November 6 and runs through November 29, 2015. Please join us for a fun and affordable opening reception on Friday, November 6 from 7-9pm. This is a great opportunity to get the first peek at all available artwork.

The gallery will be closed on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 26), but will be open the remainder of this final weekend of the exhibit. Please also join them for a special Black Friday shopping reception from 6-9pm on Friday, November 27 (the day after Thanksgiving). They will have light refreshments for art appreciators to do final weekend shopping to close out the show.

The exhibit and receptions are at Del Ray Artisans Gallery in the Nicholas A. Colasanto Center, 2704 Mount Vernon Avenue, Alexandria, Virginia 22301.  Regular gallery hours are: Thursdays 12–6pm; Fridays and Saturdays 12–9pm; and Sundays 12–6pm.  The gallery is free, open to the public, and handicap accessible. How to price artwork

From Saatchi
When pricing your art, it is important to adopt a consistent fact-based price structure. As an artist, you should be prepared to explain how and why you set your price. Prices need to be based on recent sales, the cost of labor and material, and comparisons with similar works. The price of your artwork should also include any packaging costs you might incur if the work sells (you don't need to factor in shipping costs as those will be paid for by the person who buys your work). Compare your art to what sells, not what does not sell. It's a good idea to have artworks in a range of prices in your portfolio, as this will widen the net of people who may be interested in your work.
