When I get a case of the nerves I turn off the phone and plop myself in front of the nearest Philip Guston late painting. I wonder if it might be fun to write up a piece on artists whose process involves a kind of meticulous attention to materials used, where there are no short cuts, no skipping ahead or rushing things along....off of the top of my head I am thinking of Vija Celmins, Martin Puryear, Foon Sham, Joan Belmar. Please continue if you have the time!
